I recently got turned onto cranberry extract. I was impressed with all of the reported health benefits from this product. First, it is very rich in anti-oxidant content and is a great source of vitamin C. Cranberries have long been touted as a way to prevent and combat urinary tract infections. The high proanthocyanidin content helps stop bacteria from making its way into the body through the urinary tract. Cranberry extract has been shown to reduce cancerous tumor growth and may assist with recovery after a stroke. It is also said to reduce the risk of colon cancer and improve cardiovascular health by decreasing LDL (bad) cholesterol and increasing HDL (good) cholesterol. The tannins in cranberries can protect the body against atherosclerosis. The high flavonoid content decreases chance of tooth decay and helps fight cavities by preventing bacteria from latching onto the teeth's enamel. The quinic acid in this fruit may prevent the formation of kidney stones. Last, it helps with bodily detoxification which can then aid in improving immune function.
